A Devotional on Trust and Flow
Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Reflection:
This morning during practice, I found myself forcing the movement “Wave Hands Like Clouds.” My shoulders were tight. My breathing is shallow. I was TRYING so hard to make it look right.
And then I remembered: clouds don’t force their way across the sky.
They just… move. Gracefully. Trusting the wind to carry them. No striving. No proving. Just being what God created them to be.
How often do we do this in our lives, my loves? We PUSH and STRIVE and FORCE things to happen on our timeline, in our way. We clench our jaws (guilty!), hold our breath, and white-knuckle our way through situations that God is actually asking us to trust Him with.
The beautiful thing about Tai Chi is that your body will tell you the truth. When you’re forcing, you feel it – tension, shallow breath, resistance. When you’re flowing, you know it – ease, deep breath, grace.
Personal Reflection:
Where am I forcing something instead of trusting God?
What would it look like to “wave hands like clouds” – to move with grace instead of striving?
Am I holding my breath in any area of my life? What do I need to release?
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to flow like clouds across Your sky. Not forcing, not striving, not trying to control what you’re already directing. Help me trust Your wind, Your timing, Your way. Unclench my jaw. Soften my grip. Teach me that grace isn’t just what You give – it’s how You want me to move through this world. Amen.
Closing Thought:
The next time you feel yourself forcing something – a relationship, a project, a timeline – pause. Take a deep breath. And remember: clouds don’t force their way across the sky. Neither do you.
You know that I love you. -Meli Garden
